Mary’s Lent Diary (Good Friday)

My heart is breaking, the sword has done its job.

Simeon’s words have come true.

“A sword will pierce your very soul.” (Luke 2:35)

Today I watched my son nailed to a cross, lifted up high and left to die.

Shadow of a woman and a cross

[Jesus] was looked down on and passed over,
a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.
One look at him and people turned away.
We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried—
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself,
that God was punishing him for his own failures.
But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises we get healed.
We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost.
We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way.
And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong,
    on him, on him.

Isaiah 53:2-6 (MSG)

God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

From the cross, Love Breathes….

Love Breathes Forgiveness

“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 24:34).

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace

Ephesians 1:7

Love Breathes Company

“Today you will be with me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43).

Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.

Ephesians 3:12

Love Breathes Belonging

“Woman, behold your Son” (John 19:26).

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

John 1:12

Love Breathes Honesty

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46).

Why…….

Matthew 26:46

Love Breathes Human-ness

“I thirst” (John 19:28).

The Word became human and made his home among us.

John 1:14

Love Breathes Faith

“It is finished” (John 19:30).

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God.

1 Peter 3:18

Love Breathes Hope

“Father, into your hands I commend my spirit” (Luke 23:46).

And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.
John 17:3

“And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

John 12:32

Lord Jesus,

Thank You.

Amen
